Jay Shah is mechanical engineering graduate from MIT WPU (Pune) who loves sports and is extremely committed to becoming the most enterprising version of himself.
Jay was deeply involved in sports throughout his schooling. During 11th and 12th, he decided to “prioritize academics” and stopped playing all together. However in the middle of his college life, he started realizing the true value and positive impact co-curriculars like sports had on him.
That is when Jay took a conscious decision to not restrict himself to the college curriculum rather look beyond it to involve himself in real life projects, activities, team sports, and other co-curriculars. He joined the Enterprise India Fellowship during the third year of college to push himself out of his comfort zone and work on his identified weak areas such as communication and public speaking.
“Jay has always approached every opportunity with a lot of humility and diligence. He is open to learning more from people, asking for help and making deep connections,” shares Ankita Parashar, Head of Strategic Partnerships & Marketing at the Enterprise India Fellowship.
Throughout his fellowship journey, Jay worked on 7+ projects including 4 Enterprise projects like the Green Room & the Passion Project Grant and 2 client projects with BSD (Build Something Different) and YelloSKYE.
“Jay demonstrated proactiveness, a collaborative approach, and a willingness to put himself outside his comfort zone. This was important because Jay was tasked with doing some primary market research for us
.
He was also keen to come up with innovative solutions for the tasks. Jay’s contribution was valuable to the exercise,” shares Kush Agarwal, Co-founder of YelloSKYE, a company pioneering in drone technology.
Connecting with and learning from an enterprising person like Kush, paired with the intention of improving his communication and public speaking abilities fueled Jay’s engagement in the Green Room.
The Green Room (inspired by Professor David Gould’s course at the University of Iowa) is a monthly community story sharing evening hosted by Enterprise Partners (students who are a part of the Enterprise India Fellowship) on a rotating basis, where changemakers and enterprising people from different fields join to let down their hair and share their story like in a theatre’s green room (the backstage room where performers prepare and can be vulnerable).
Jay participated in more than 9 such story sharing evenings, helped organize and host 4 of them and connected with and supported changemakers like Ajay Dalmia (Educator, and Founder, DriveChange Learning and Resource Centre), Ruby Jhunjhunwala (Ceramic Artist, and Founder at Adipa) and others prepare for the event, practiced public speaking and hosted space for the community to be vulnerable and share their stories.

Jay intended to use the fellowship as a catalyst to improve his communication skills, and intensely and intentionally leveraged the monthly reflection-based content creation process (Conflexion) at the Fellowship where Partners actively learn to reflect on their learnings and feelings and harvest them into blogs, videos and/or podcasts. Creating 8 reflective blogs helped Jay practice how to clearly express his thoughts and feelings, which he believes also helped him focus on what is fundamental to him, communicate better and improve his relationships with others.
“Jay is a great example of an engineer who has transformed and incorporated various levels of thinking to his repertoire. Whether it is through reflective writing, or through sports or through the various projects he did at Enterprise, Jay has shown the growth he has made in his personal and professional life!” shares Yusuf Hakim, Co-Founder of the Enterprise India Fellowship.
Jay has intentionally and thoroughly used the opportunities around him to grow in the personal and professional capacities he desired, and shares “I won’t have any regrets when I look back at my life just because my fundamentals about life and myself are so strong that the journey from here is just onwards and upwards.”
Along with graduating from the fellowship, Jay has started his new job as a part of the corporate supply chain team at Varroc, a leading automobile parts’ supplier company in a techno-commercial role.

Self Testimonial: Being outspoken, pushing myself, having an open mindset, getting my hands dirty with whatever would come my way were some of the highlights of the self-transformation journey. Enterprise has helped me in making myself fundamentally so strong that now I would not be deterred by any tough situation. I have the will to fight it and the confidence to come out on top every single time. I won’t have any regrets when I look back at my life just because my fundamentals about life and myself are so strong that the journey from here is just onwards and upwards.
