“Everyone thinks of changing the world but no one thinks of changing themselves”
-Leo Tolstoy
[/action]
This line is so so powerful. It gives an insight into Leo Tolstoy’s mindset. It has changed my life head over heels. The focus for me was and will always be myself. I’ve always asked myself what I could have done better and what shouldn’t I be repeating the next time I take up a task which resonates with what Leo Tolstoy had to say!
This image might seem very trivial but everything in life can be related with it.It gives out a simple message what confidence can do to you, you either drag yourselves or you just fly off depending on one simple thing and that is confidence.
All my life, I’ve always doubted myself, which definitely does speak about confidence. I got a reality check on where do I stand in this world full of competition the time I entered JUNIOR COLLEGE. In school I was engulfed in my comfort zones. I was merely exposed to the outside world. But as soon as I stepped foot into junior college reality hit me and it hit me hard. My shortcomings were exposed. Let alone overcoming the shortcomings, I had a hard time first identifying what they were. The quest to identify the shortcomings began a journey of self-questioning and self-reflection.
I’d like to relate this a bit with Physics, a subject that has always intrigued me. In physics, under thermodynamics we study about heat transfer. The crux of this subject is the CHANGE OF STATE OF A BODY WHEN HEAT TRANSFER OCCURS.
I believe, this is how humans are, we are designed in such a way that we see change and not the process of change. We see people evolving over a while. We only notice the start and the end of the process. The process holds little or no importance to us at all. There’s always going to be someone who is in the same position as others but their journey to that position would be different. This is also similar to a concept of Thermodynamics says and this is how the article is going to be.
What I’ll be speaking revolves around the changes in me with very little focus on the story. The story would just be to support the changes and take you through the journey I have been.
All my life, I’ve been an introverted person, would keep things to myself, not open up, would speak openly only to close ones, let me correct very close ones. But the one thing I’ve always stuck to is the Attitude of Caring. I believe in anything and everything that someone says to me. I take it in my stride that whatever someone is telling/advising me about is for the betterment of myself. I take upon that advice and try to be better than I was before. In the process, I would take up a lot of things. I tend to not focus on one particular thing and take it forward. I do something for a while, find something new on the way and then I start doing a different work altogether within a very short period. I have mindset wherein I’ll put my feet in multiple places at a time which just takes off all the balance and I’m not able to stand anywhere for a long time which then leads to procrastination and frustration in whatever work I try to do.
Now, being a part of ENTERPRISE for a while, I started to have some questions about myself.
Questions that I came up with through the Process
- What was I before in terms of personality and confidence?
- What did I do before I joined Enterprise?
- What all I’ve done after becoming a part of Enterprise?
- What problems did I face with Communication?
- How important communication is?
- What am I right now in terms of personality and confidence?
- What importance does Discipline hold in my life?
- How my family dynamics have changed?
- How the outlook that I had in my friend circle has changed?
- What Clarity I have in the decisions that I take?
- What networking opportunities have I got?
- What will I perceive of me and what do I do to change that?
Knowing people’s opinion about you is a part of self-reflection and so is documenting the work done.
SELF-REFLECTION HELPS IN STRENGTHENING EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE,TAKING ACTIONS WITH INTEGRITY AND BEING MORE CONFIDENT!
My DAD is a living example who doesn’t have the word PROCRASTINATION in his dictionary at all. He never gets tired. Always up and ready for something new. For long, I’ve tried to implement it and make this attitude a part of my lifestyle and I did it to an extent. I’ve got amazing results because of this attitude. People have appreciated and encouraged me to take this forward. I’ve also been told how this attitude does give me an edge. But people only see what they want to see, they don’t know what happens behind the scenes, just like the iceberg illusion, we can only see what’s above and not what is below, how big it is. What I’m trying to convey is that this attitude has had its effects on me. Being an introvert along with this no-procrastination/doing a lot attitude started a battle within myself. I’ve always had the desire to become something I’m not and forgetting/not paying attention to what my true strengths are.
This dug a well of me being less confident, shy, influenced by what others would think of me, being underestimated and a lot more combined. This well kept on getting deeper and deeper over time. But the silver lining in all this was that I always had the will of taking risks and to improve, having a ready-to-learn attitude always.
This attitude helped a long way in finding Enterprise and getting me a platform to improve and showcase myself. Develop my personality, to take the things out of the WELL which I wanted to improve and have in myself. And slowly and steadily I started seeing changes in myself and so did my family members who desperately were waiting for this change.
Even as I speak to you in the form of an article, I am overcoming the fear of judgement, putting up personal content out there and a lot more. Through this process, I’ve understood and have got proof that the attitude was never wrong, I only required a few tweaks in what I was doing and having control over my decisions and desires. If you get this you are all SET for your life.
We, humans, have a mindset of doing everything to the Extreme levels we can, which according to me is the root cause of all problems. Striking a balance between the extremes is tough and I think you can never achieve equilibrium but the Quest to achieve should always be there.
Whatever questions, doubts I have are slowly getting answered but they are also giving rise to new questions. But this is a cycle which is never going to end and that’s how I want it to be.
We all know that electric current flows from higher potential to lower potential. This is because they are always in the quest of achieving stability. They try to give the energy they have and reach a stable state. This is also so relatable in real life, we always want to have a perfect life, stable life and this we can achieve by giving out energy, helping others.
I’ve always believed that PHYSICS is closely associated with us and applying the concepts to our life and relating it is very Refreshing and Satisfying for me.
So, as I mentioned right at the start about where the focus has been for me, even the focus of this article is self-improvement. Getting out there, putting up my point, overcoming my fears and learning through the process was the aim of this article. This is a new journey that I’ve started. The start has been phenomenal. Through the process of writing this article and putting it out, I’ve challenged my comfort zones and got out of it to a good enough level. The real journey starts now, in continuing this and taking it forward.
