It began in the year 2009, when the movie 3 idiots got released and we all know such a great success it was.Well, lets dive straight to the movie scene where Aamir khan aka Rancho tries to solve the problem of a unstructured looking aerodynamic design, i.e.Quadcopter. Well, I was so stunned after watching that scene that it printed a super thought that I have to make it Boss! No matter what. So, fortunately I started to work on it in my second year of engineering.
This project has always been my “dream” since then. I always wanted to build a quadcopter. Well the idea seems to be very pretty at the initial but the inner game summoned up every ounce of sweat. There were times that I almost dropped the idea of building it after having so many failed attempts. But they say
[blockquote text=”Don’t give up before the miracle happens.” text_color=”” width=”” line_height=”undefined” background_color=”” border_color=”” show_quote_icon=”yes” quote_icon_color=”#4285F4″]
and that’s where the spirit refueled and it happened.Well I would say I took around 5 months to complete it. I would love to recreate those moments which I experienced with the help of this blog…..
I would divide my journey in several phases;
1. TURN UP FOR YOUR DREAM
[blockquote text=”When you turn up, half of the battle is won and the other half has just begun.” text_color=”” width=”” line_height=”undefined” background_color=”” border_color=”” show_quote_icon=”yes” quote_icon_color=”#4285F4″]
I then prepared a list of all the components with all that excitement of finally implementing the initial stage and I started my quest. I was searching for the resources including the BLDC motors,Propellers,XT60 connectors, etc. After three to four tiring attempts of not getting it, I managed to get it at the pioneer electronics suggested by some of my mates.I would say I almost got 80% of prerequisites before starting my hands on DRANZER ( I named the quadcopter after it flew).
2. FALL IN LOVE WITH YOUR DREAM AND THE RESULTS WILL TAKE CARE OF ITSELF
Now comes the phase where I never in my life had done any Electronic assembly, but honestly I was super thrilled and excited, it started quite well once I started assembling the components and started soldering the wire connections along with the base plate. Then, finally when I checked the connections with the multimeter and it wasn’t as I was expecting. Later I restarted but still the first two-three attempts were a complete waste. But I had that vision running 24/7 to make this dream to turn into reality by overcoming every failed attempt. So after almost 4 soldering attempts it gave a proper reading, until I realised that to be calm and to be perfect at every stage was a key in this journey.
3.PATIENCE IS BITTER, BUT ITS FRUIT IS SWEET
Never ever expected that even an energy source could betray the entire process in my case. Now this phase started with the lipo battery failures and was super depressive as I felt DRANZER would lose all its power right after its first thrust.I finally ordered a battery online after all that lost enthusiasm and unfortunately, even that came with some different specifications. Now, I started with the Battery hunt.I started searching it offline and then landed up at one of the electricals. This phase was a game of patience and I finally managed to get the battery right.
4.GET A DREAM WORTH MORE THAN YOUR SLEEP
Now comes the ‘Ultimate Assembly’. The adjective ‘Ultimate’ clearly defines the Assembly journey and was asking for day and night. I also had to manage my college exams at that time.A hardcore coding was needed for the type of quadcopter I was building which needed gyroscope alogorithms in it. I started to look for assistance for the coding part. I was very fortunate enough at that time that I had found the guy (Akhilesh) who would help me through this phase. I heard his name from one of my friends and got in touch with him. I explained to him all the struggle I was having and I guessed he saw that spark in me to make the DRANZER happen and he agreed and said YES.
WE started working all night straight 12 days until 12 O’ clock midnight. I reside in a hostel, so he would call me to his apartment in Kothrud. I used to work on the design and assembly and he would work on coding the microcontroller. During one of our indoor testings, unsuitably one of my motors got burned and that was the time when I was almost about to complete the whole DRANZER. Just give it a thought

When you are about to win a Race and suddenly you collapse right a second before your victory, how would you feel ? Like a loser, right ? The same happened to me at that moment.

I was falling apart within, thinking that all I did was a complete failure, I felt depression. I still remember that I almost gave up at that point and almost felt like crying.
But they say,
[blockquote text=”The greatest glory is not in never falling,but in rising every time we fall.” text_color=”” width=”” line_height=”undefined” background_color=”” border_color=”” show_quote_icon=”yes” quote_icon_color=”#4285F4″]
Later on after 5 days of calm and relaxation, I resumed the work. I started to look for the replacement of the burned BLDC motor which I needed and again managed to assemble it.
5.NEVER BELIEVE IN FATE
When you believe in fate, I was having the worst while building the DRANZER. At this time the charger which I was using also stopped its function due to the prior dry battery couple. One of my friends was also having the same battery which he was using in one of his robotics projects. He told me that I could get the same one from the local college area in a good student price. So I managed to get it.
6.IF YOU ARE GOOD ENOUGH, YOU WILL GET THERE
[blockquote text=”It’s the Finale. It’s the last Impression.A bad dessert can ruin the Meal.” text_color=”” width=”” line_height=”undefined” background_color=”” border_color=”” show_quote_icon=”yes” quote_icon_color=”#4285F4″]
This phase was filled with extreme hardships. It included the testing period of the quadcopter. Well, it wasn’t the way I thought that it will go as it was a failed attempt at the initial stages. Again, I was going through the same tide of emotions of not being able to succeed in the first stage itself. I felt like I was going to lose in this journey with the waste of complete time and money.
The problem was about the weight distribution. I reworked on the design and had a complete faith that I would make it possible no matter what ,and I started and assembled it again. It was 11 past 40 and I was having a strong belief that I will fly this DRANZER today at any cost. I still remember the night when, along with my mate I took the quadcopter to Jeet ground, Kothrud and it was around 12:10 midnight.
I placed the DRANZER on the ground and then with an intense Pulse rate within me, I slowly pushed the positive throttle and then was the moment I was eagerly waiting for, it was the first time it flew above the ground with an altitude of 3 feet. My Heart was filled with emotions and bursted out with joy and I was so very much happy.I was like I did it !!
It was around 12:30 midnight now, I called my Mom with intense emotions filled in my heart and I said I did it Mom, finally I did it! The dream of building a quadcopter was finally accomplished as I could experience my hands shivering with joy while controlling the DRANZER. On that day I realised, Dreams do come true, what matters is how much you are loyal to it, how much hardships are you ready to take upon, and would you give up your cozy sleep for it ?
I then, with my satisfied self, went to my hostel with no sign of sleep as I was so happy that I almost didn’t sleep the whole night. So this is how the quadcopter story ended with multiple learnings leaving behind.
I would conclude by saying :
