20 year old unlocked multiple growth opportunities by working on 7 projects and building connections

Yukti Gupta grew up in an environment where both her parents were running successful family businesses. She has  always been an enthusiastic soul, ready to explore, get engaged and be involved. 

In 2019, she invested her summer vacation into an internship with #karo, an event to celebrate the spirit of doing, organized and hosted by Enterprise Partners (students at the Enterprise India Fellowship) where 33 workshop takers were hosting 20 and 40-minute sessions each. 

She joined as a marketing intern but as time passed, she got a chance to try her hands with different departments. She took on the big responsibility of managing the workshop takers, and kept herself calm and composed through the challenges she faced. It ended up being a pretty impactful experience for her, and she shares that, “Those two months of my internship have taught me more than my college. I understand the importance of teamwork, patience and above all determination.”

As a BBA student at SP Jain Institute of Management, her course was hosted in three countries, starting with India. At the beginning of 2020, Yukti headed to France to spend an entire semester exploring the culture. For the next 2 years of her degree, she would live in Australia. Yukti was open and ready to learn from different projects and experiences and create those kinds of opportunities for herself.  

“I like to learn by just doing it. For example, I did not know about designing when I took on a project to design my college magazine. I just found out about Canva and started playing around with it. In about 2 weeks my college magazine was designed and printed.” Unfortunately, the universe had other plans for her. In March 2020 as the pandemic escalated around the world, Yukti had to leave France in the middle of her semester and come home to India. The situation was not in her hands and the hopes of going back were very low;  Yukti did not want to compromise on her learning and growth and wanted to do more with her time. She was determined to not leave the responsibility of her learning and growth up to fate.

To not limit herself to doing college online, Yukti joined the Enterprise India Fellowship. Before joining, she had shared, “I want to take on projects and learn what all efforts and skills it takes for a project to be successful. I want to be able to execute work with confidence.”

In a short span of 12 months, Yukti amplified her skills and abilities working on over seven projects – including three in-house projects and four very diverse client projects- from working on outreach for the Bizchamp Premier League and supporting the SMILE Wellness Foundation with their fundraising pitch deck to co-designing an e-book with Dr Alifia Cementwala to spread awareness on Osteoporosis, and creating a series of team-building games with innovator Rajiv Tulpule. 

Ankita Parashar, Business Partner and Marketing Lead at Enterprise, who has followed Yukti’s journey closely, shared,  

“I’ve worked with Yukti when she joined Enterprise for an internship at #karo. From then to now, if there’s one thing that has remained constant with her is her ability to slay any task she takes up and her empathy-driven approach. She’s the kind of person you want in your team and your life. She’s a star!”

Yukti has been able to manage multiple roles at priority at once and develop and practice her sense of responsibility through working on different projects with different people.

One of the people she closely worked with, was innovator Rajiv Tulpule, CEO at Retro Cable Corporation. They worked together to co-create a series of team building games and Yukti hosted those games with a group of young people, recorded it and created a video series. Mr Tulpule shares, 

“It was an open brief project and she helped co-create and envision it. She was very committed and resourceful and contributed meaningfully to each of the videos we created. She has great knowledge of video making, editing and photography which made it possible for getting great results. She settles for nothing less but perfection in her work.”

“I enjoyed seeing Yukti execute the project with Rajiv Tulpule with such leadership and skill. She made a difficult project easy to execute and did a damn good job executing it,” added Yusuf Hakim, Co-Founder of the Enterprise India Fellowship.

Along with working on a diverse range of client projects, she also co-created #karo playdates along with her fellow Partners (fellow students who were a part of the fellowship) – Apeksha Rathod and Mrunmayee Padmagiwar. It was a series of workshops where parents logged in with their children and together learned new things. The idea was to make children spend quality time with their parents given the inability to have outdoor adventures during the pandemic. 

Through working on real-life projects, conversations with mentors and participating in different workshops that are a part of the fellowship program, Yukti has reflected on her story, developed an understanding of her values and causes she cares about, practised how to share her story, and learned to build and sustain connections in the fields and organizations interesting to her.

Once Yukti learns something, it is not long until she implements it. She started reaching out to people and companies she is interested in using LinkedIn with personalised notes and emails about what she can contribute and what she’d like to learn. Through this approach, she connected with Dhruti Shah, a Leadership Coach based in Singapore, and is now helping her set up her online presence. 

A few months back, she had hosted a couple of workshops for the team of Dharohar, an NGO based in Udaipur, India to introduce them to some new features on Instagram and how they can incorporate them. During the workshops, she felt that she resonated with their work, their team, and their head Shivani Singhal. She kept in touch with Shivani and later on reached out to see if she could work with the organisation in any other way, and landed herself another opportunity. 

Yukti has truly mastered the art of sharing her story, sustaining existing connections and creating new ones from scratch, thus placing herself in the hotspot of new opportunities that are of interest to her. She’s looking forward to using storytelling as a tool to contribute towards a sustainable world.
