I love making graphics and editing videos. I keep creating content here and there. All graphics and videos I created were always kept with me in my phone gallery for long or I would just post them on Instagram . The day I understood that Linked-in helps gain insights from professionals and also is a medium to get opportunities, I began to post my work over there.
To take full advantage of Linked in and attract opportunities and right connections, building up my body of work was most important. I consistently was working on 4 projects from Enterprise India Fellowship where I had to design different logos, do photo manipulations, edit videos, etc. I took up a 30 day logo challenge at Enterprise and I made sure to post all the logos there. Looking the comments and likes, it made me feel satisfied, happy and validated my work. Within a couple of months my engagement grew and my motivation to take more work kept going up.
After the logo making I couldn’t stop. I took up a 15 day photo manipulation challenge, and it required me to take original photos and manipulate them by adding different visuals and styles. Initially it was smooth and later it became challenging and I realized I need more knowledge to finish the challenge. One of my fellowship mentors, Ankita, helped me find the right tutorials that made me finish the challenge. All this ‘Mehnat’ I posted on LinkedIn, again I got appreciation for the work.
Now comes the part that made me believe completely in the idea of Consistently posting Body of Work. While built all this work, I also connected with a few people who were posting for freelance positions in video editing and graphic designing. Instantly they were able to see the work I did all organized in profile, and I got a call. I was a bit nervous, being in my 12th std it felt unreal to me. When I sent them my portfolio and they asked me to create their project that’s when I felt confident and felt like a winner. I looked at my previous challenges and they made me believe that I can do it.
Now I have already delivered 4 freelance projects and ready to take on more. Looking at my Body of Work gives me a boost to do more even at times when it feels challenging.
That’s the power of Body of work and consistency!
