Expression is like a river, constantly flowing and never ceasing. Just as a river needs an outlet to reach the ocean, our thoughts and opinions need an outlet to reach the world.
For a long time, I’ve always enjoyed expressing my thoughts and opinions in writing. However, it wasn’t until recently that I realized the true extent of my love for self- reflection and sharing my reflections with others. Over the last few months, I have found myself drawn to writing blogs about various aspects of my life, from my experiences and thoughts to my hopes and fears. I have always been someone who is not afraid to share my opinions and ideas, and these blogs have given me a platform to do so in a more meaningful and organized way.
Growing up, I was fortunate to be raised in an environment where I felt comfortable expressing myself freely. My parents always encouraged and valued my thoughts and opinions, which instilled in me a confidence in myself and my abilities to communicate. One particular incident that stands out in my mind is when I got into a fight with a boy who was troubling my younger sister on the school bus. When the boy’s mother came to our home to complain, I was not there. But when I returned and overheard my father confidently telling her that I would never hit someone for no reason, it made me realize just how much my parents trusted and believed in me. This experience taught me that I can share anything with them without any fear, and it has been a key factor in my willingness to express myself and share my thoughts with others.
As I entered my teenage years, my relationship with my parents, especially with my mother, grew even stronger. I developed a deep level of trust and comfort with her, and I felt that I could talk to her about anything. Whether I needed advice on relationships with friends or crushes, or just someone to listen to me, my mother has always been there for me. Even when I need help in buying a gift for a friend, she is the one I would turn to.
She knows all of my secrets. Once she was driving my friend and I to an exam. During the journey, my crush’s name came up in conversation and both my mother and friend began teasing me.
The strong relationship that I have with my parents is what has allowed me to feel so free in expressing myself throughout my life. Their open and supportive environment has always encouraged me to share my thoughts and opinions and made me feel confident in doing so. My parents have always had unique reactions to situations, like when I failed an exam, instead of punishing me, my dad would help me understand what went wrong and how to correct it. He once told me that shouting at me or beating me wouldn’t change the result, and instead, I should focus on identifying my mistakes and working on correcting them. This kind of positive reinforcement has made me appreciate the environment in my house and the open and supportive relation I have with my parents. Even now, as I continue to write these blogs, I go to my father for advice and love getting his feedback.
This journey of self-expression has been a transformative one for me. It has allowed me to delve deeper into my own thoughts and understand myself better. By having the freedom to express my thoughts and experiences, I have gained clarity and realized things that I may not have otherwise. I have also started to spend more time introspecting and paying attention to my own thoughts. The opportunity to write these blogs has not only been a source of personal growth for me, but it has also deepened my relationship with my parents. These blogs have become a regular topic of discussions at the dinner table with my father, where we talk about ideas, and he offers valuable suggestions and insights. This experience has truly brought us closer.
This journey of expression through writing has been an incredibly rewarding and fulfilling experience that has allowed me to understand myself better and deepen my relationship with my parents.
